Duo Interpretation is a fun and popular event.  It is a two person in which the partners interpret and perform a published selection of literature (novel, play, or short story) in a 10 minute time frame.  This event requires you to work on character development, blocking, and communication.  You have to be able to cooperate with and rely upon your partner to create a moving performance.

Duo is structured that you and your partner cut a published, printed work from either plays, short stories, or novels-although, plays tend to be easier source material to search through. An introduction is written to be delivered during competition.  Any piece selection needs to tell a complete story, have character development, provide drama/humor, and allow for interpretation by the performers.

Rules & pointers:
  • You and your partner may not touch or make eye contact.
  • The piece must be within 10 minutes with a 30 second grace period if you go over that.
  • Must be memorized.
  • An introduction is required (names author, title, gives any necessary information, and sets the tone) and recent conventions have been that it is given after a minute or so of the piece has been delivered, at a natural break-point.
  • No props or costumes.
  • You may cut anything out of the piece, but cannot add anything.  You may not change the author's intent.
  • No lying on the ground or kneeling with both legs
